How Newmoon works.
Newmoon writes a removal plan for your phone number and home address, and Grok carries it out in your own account. This page covers the quick scan, the six-bot crew in Grok Bot, every command and status, and how to host your own copy.
01Quickstart#
Three steps. The first takes a minute and works with any Grok account. The rest needs Grok Bot.
- ScanType your first name, last name, city and state on the home page and press find me with Grok. Grok opens with a search prompt for 15 of the biggest people-search sites and comes back with where you're listed.
- PlanScroll to the planner, add the phone number and the inbox you want to use for opt-outs, and pick a depth. The site list and the prompt update as you type.
- RunCopy the main prompt into a Grok Bot skill called
newmoon, add the routine, and saystart. Scout reports first. Nothing is filed until you approve it.
02How it works#
Newmoon is one static page. It has no server, no account and no analytics. It builds text: a plan and a set of prompts. Grok does the searching, filling and clicking, inside your account, after you approve each step.
Two consequences follow. Newmoon can't see your data, so there's nothing to leak or subpoena. And Newmoon can't look anyone up by itself: every search runs in the Grok account of the person asking, under rules that limit it to that person.
03Grok quick scan#
The find me with Grok button opens grok.com/?q= with your name and city in the prompt, and copies the same prompt to your clipboard. If the Grok box opens empty, paste.
I'm Jordan Avery from Austin, TX. I want to see where my phone number and home address are exposed online so I can remove them. Search these people-search sites for my name and city: Whitepages, Spokeo, BeenVerified, FastPeopleSearch, TruePeopleSearch, Intelius, MyLife, Nuwber, … For each site give me: listed / not listed / unsure, what it shows, and the official opt-out link. Don't open paid reports. Only look for me.
The scan is a starting point. Grok searches the open web, so a site that hides results behind a captcha can show up as unsure. The Grok Bot crew checks each site directly.
04Set up Grok Bot#
- Create the skillIn Grok Bot, create a skill named
newmoon. If someone shared a Newmoon bot link, add it in one click and skip to step 3. - Paste the main promptCopy it from the kit on the home page. It already contains your details, the rules, the crew and your plan in priority order.
- Add the routinePaste
routines.ymlso Watch runs on each new moon. If the routine editor only takes simple schedules, choose monthly and paste the steps. - Say startRegistry handles Do Not Call first, then Scout searches the first five sites and stops to show you what it found.
One bot or six
The main prompt runs the whole crew in one bot, which is the simplest setup. If you'd rather watch each job separately, create six bots and give each its own prompt from the kit tabs. They share the same rules and hand work to each other by status.
Approving a draft
Before anything is sent, Filer shows you a draft like this. Your number is masked so only the last two digits show.
to: Spokeo / opt-out form · spokeo.com/optout profile URL spokeo.com/Jordan-Avery/Texas/Austin/p1234… email optouts@… no ID · no card · nothing the listing doesn't already show ❯ approve? [y/N] y
05Commands#
The main prompt teaches your bot these phrases. Type them in the Grok Bot chat. Plain sentences work too; these are shortcuts.
| You say | What happens |
|---|---|
start | Registry runs, then Scout searches the first five sites and reports. |
status | One line per bot: what it's doing and what's waiting on you. |
what needs me | Every NEEDS YOU item, with the exact link and the step you have to do. |
yes / no | Approve or reject the draft on screen. |
yes to all Spokeo | Approve every draft for one site. yes to all alone approves the current batch. |
skip MyLife | Marks the site SKIPPED and moves on. |
ledger | Sends the full table now instead of at the end of the run. |
watch now | Runs the recheck today instead of waiting for the new moon. |
pause / resume | Stops every bot, or carries on from where it stopped. |
06The crew#
Each bot has one job, a fixed hand-off and one rule it can't break. Open a row for details.
07Statuses#
Ledger and the tracker use the same words. The moon on the home page is lit by whatever is still open, so each status also has a weight.
| Status | Meaning | Moon |
|---|---|---|
| to do | Not searched yet. | 100% |
| listed | Scout found you. Waiting for Filer. | 100% |
| needs you | A call, an ID, a card or a captcha. Your bot tells you exactly what to do. | 100% |
| filed | Opt-out submitted. Waiting for the confirmation email or the site. | 55% |
| confirmed | Confirmation link clicked. The site hasn't caught up yet. | 25% |
| removed | A fresh search comes up empty, with a screenshot as proof. | 0% |
| not listed | Searched three ways, nothing found. | 0% |
| skip | You chose to leave it. It doesn't count either way. | — |
Watch can move a removed site to RETRY when the listing comes back. Filer then drafts a new opt-out for your approval.
08Depth and sites#
| Depth | What's in it | Sites |
|---|---|---|
| Crucial | The sites BADBOOL marks crucial: BeenVerified, Spokeo, Whitepages, Intelius and seven more. | 11 |
| Priority | Crucial plus high priority: Acxiom, Ancestry, FamilyTreeNow, FastPeopleSearch, USPhoneBook. | 16 |
| Full BADBOOL | Every people-search site on BADBOOL. | 45 |
| Max | Plus 28 Newmoon additions: caller-ID apps (Truecaller, Sync.me, NumLookup, Spytox), the Dataveria network, ClustrMaps, PeekYou, Pipl, LexisNexis, Epsilon and others. | 73 |
Every depth also includes the registries (Do Not Call, Google "Results about you", OptOutPrescreen, and California's DROP portal for CA residents) and two phone settings you do yourself.
09Site flags#
Flags on each site tell you and the bots what an opt-out will need. Amber flags need a human.
| Flag | Meaning | Who handles it |
|---|---|---|
| email link | The site sends a confirmation email. | Clerk, after your yes |
| listing url | The form wants the URL of your profile page. | Scout saves it, Filer pastes it |
| captcha | Expect a captcha on the form. | Your bot if its tools allow, otherwise you |
| free account | You need a free account (never a trial). | You decide |
| birthdate | The form asks for a date of birth. | Filer asks you first |
| phone call | An automated call reads you a code. | You |
| photo id | The site wants an ID or a face photo. | You, or skip it |
| card | Searching needs a card or a trial. | You, or skip it |
| check link | Added by Newmoon. The bot opens the link first and finds the site's own opt-out if it moved. | Scout |
10Rechecks#
Data brokers buy fresh records all the time, and a removed listing can come back within weeks. Watch searches every cleared site again on each new moon, roughly every 29.5 days.
Dates are computed in your browser with the lunar phase formulas from Jean Meeus' Astronomical Algorithms (chapter 49), accurate to a couple of minutes, and shown in your time zone. The recheck dates .ics button in the planner puts the next twelve in your calendar.
11Your data#
The planner saves to localStorage under the key newmoon.v1, in this browser only. Clear site data and it's gone. To move to another device, use backup .json and restore.

}ledger .csv exports columns #, site, status, updated, opt-out link, notes, which open straight in Sheets or Excel.
12Privacy and safety#
The rules below are written into every prompt. Your bot follows them on every site, every run.
- Only you. The bots act for the person in ABOUT ME and ask before touching a relative's listing.
- Nothing without a yes. No form, email or confirmation link goes out until you approve it in chat.
- No ID, no card, no SSN. Sites that want one are marked NEEDS YOU and left for you.
- Nothing new. A site only gets details its listing already shows.
- Masked in chat. Your number shows as (XXX) •••-••41 in drafts.
- Proof or it didn't happen. Removed means a fresh empty search with a screenshot.
13Troubleshooting#
Grok opened with an empty box
The prompt is already on your clipboard. Paste it and send. Some Grok versions don't prefill from links.
An opt-out link is dead
Sites move these pages often. Your bot looks for the site's own "opt out" or "Do Not Sell" link in the footer, shows it to you and notes the new link in the ledger.
The confirmation email never came
Check the spam folder of the opt-out inbox. After 48 hours Clerk flags it and Filer retries once.
A site wants my driver's license
Your bot won't upload it. You can skip the site, or do it yourself with everything but your name and photo covered.
A listing came back
That's normal. Watch catches it on the next new moon, marks it RETRY and Filer drafts a new opt-out. Say watch now to check sooner.
I'm still getting spam calls
Do Not Call only binds legitimate telemarketers, and lists that already have your number keep it for a while. Turn on spam filtering on your phone (in the planner under "Your phone") and give removals a few weeks.
14Self-hosting#
Newmoon is a folder of static files. Any static host works.

15Sources and license#
45 sites come from BADBOOL, the Big Ass Data Broker Opt-Out List by Yael Grauer, updated September 27, 2026 and licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Newmoon restructures it for bots and shares its directory and prompts under the same license: keep the credit, keep it non-commercial, share changes alike.
The 28 sites marked Newmoon are Newmoon's own additions and carry the check link flag. Radaris and Rehold aren't listed because both are offline under a court order.
Newmoon is an independent project powered by Grok. It isn't made, affiliated with or endorsed by xAI.
